The main concern with ceilings is loud noise from above. Acoustic control methods are very similar to those for soundproofing walls.
One method of noise control is to install a secondary ceiling by adding insulation and battening out Barrierboard acoustic gyprock (see sound proof walls).
If walls are adequately insulated but the ceiling is not, cross-talk can be an issue. Cross-talk is the noise that travels over the wall through the ceiling, which is the weakest link. Soundblock barrier material can be used to address this common problem. It is also suitable for soundproofing ceiling voids in offices.
