How to Soundproof Ceilings

To successfully soundproof a ceiling you need to add significant density and ensure all gaps are sealed.

Our Barrierboard composite gyprock product has been designed to maximise sound reduction between rooms sharing a common ceiling/floor.  Barrierboard together with our acoustic insulations can improve a room’s acoustics by as much as 75%.

Barrierboard can either be installed as a retrofit onto the existing ceiling or furring channels used so that acoustic insulation can be added between the primary and secondary ceiling.  Where impact noise is the problem, then you will need to install resilient mounts first, then clip on the furring channels, to block structurally transmitted sound.

Ceiling depth loss would be either 32mm or up to 85mm when using resilient mounts.
